The Bilderberg Group was formed in 1954 at the Hotel de Bilderberg near Arnhem in the Netherlands, and the first meeting was from May 29th to May 31st 1954. The group took the name of the hotel as the name for the group. Jozef Retinger initated the Bilderberg Conferences. He was the groups secretary until his death. He was a leading advocate of European unification and he helped found both the European Movement and the Council Of Europe.
