Using old buses, converted fire trucks and double deckers, companies were springing up everywhere. The options ranged from the delux trips run by Rotel Tours (Des Rolling Hotel) based in German and Penn Overland from London, down to Magic Bus from Amsterdam which offered a 4 day 24 hours a day trip to Delhi for as little as $45. The purpose of this site is to reconnect those who undertook this adventure to India, Africa & South America & to make an historical record of expeditions that are hardly possible today.

TANZANIA TRAVEL FUN

Bill and Caroline's fun filled "Beach and Bush" tour of Tanzania! Okay the first part is a spoof but that is all part of the fun. We started in Zanzibar, and then worked our way north to Lake Victoria. Along the way, we stopped in Arusha, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, and finally, Mwanza on Lake Victoria. Johannesburg is the commercial centre of South Africa. Since gold was first discovered there, everything has revolved around money and from the 50th floor of Africa's tallest building, The Carlton Towers, there is an all-engulfing view of the city's narrow streets and jungle of concrete and glass. The African Museum is a contemporary building and one of South Africa's most exquisite landmarks. Located on a hill is the Voortrekker Monument that is a reminder of the Boers' Great Trek and, in 1830, the crucial battle in which they defeated the Zulus. Sun City is a magnificent fantasy world full of African ambience. The Sun City Hotel is the casino that made Sol Kerzner the richest man in South Africa.
